Weddings in the Bahamas

Getting married in the Bahamas requires one of the people being married to be on the island at least 24 hours prior to the wedding. For weekend weddings, you should arrive on Thursday for a Saturday wedding and on Friday for a Sunday wedding. Blood tests are not needed, but the following documentation is:

• Applications and/or documents required: Bring along original copies of the following (and be sure these are packed in carry-on luggage, never in checked bags):
  • Valid passport
  • Evidence of the date of their arrival in the Bahamas (airline ticket or immigration card)
  • Written parental consent for those under 18 years of age
  • Certified copy of the divorce decree or a certified copy of death certificate, if divorced or widowed
  • Declaration certifying unmarried status which must be sworn before a Notary Public or other person authorized to administer oaths in that country and must accompany the application for the marriage license
• Residency requirements: 24 hours
• Blood test: None
• Other requirements: Hotels may also have their own requirements, such as a minimum number of nights or rooms, minimum room category, etc. Check with the hotel for their specific requirements.

Honeymoons in the Bahamas

When you make your reservation, be sure to indicate that you will be celebrating your honeymoon as hotels need advance notice in order to ensure your complimentary amenities are ready when you arrive. You'll also need to provide proof of your wedding date, so be sure to bring along a copy of your marriage certificate.
