Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Philadelphia is the birthplace of the United States. It was here, on July 4, 1776, that the U.S. declared its independence and, too, where the founding fathers managed the Revolutionary War, wrote the Constitution, and governed until Washington, D.C. was built. Today all this history is commemorated in the largest colonial district in the country and in Independence National Historic Park, America's most historic mile with 40 buildings tracing and showcasing the revolutionary events of the late 1700s. The focus of the park is Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was signed, and the Liberty Bell. Aside from the history, there is still much to see and do in the "City of Brotherly Love." Adjacent to Independence National Historic Park is the U.S. Mint, the oldest in the U.S. and where most of the coins Americans use every day are made. Farther afield is the Philadelphia Zoo, the first in the country and still a leader with rare big cats; the Philadelphia Museum of Art, its steps made famous in the film, Rocky, but more importantly known for having the third largest collection of art in the U.S.; and Fairmont Park, the largest landscaped park in the U.S. with hiking, biking, and bridle trails. All of Philadelphia's sites are easily accessed on foot or via the city's extensive network of buses, subways, and trolleys. Package Includes:- Choice of accommodations
- Hotel taxes and per room occupancy tax
