Transfers
Transfers are not included with your vacation package to the Los Angeles area or Anaheim. To get to your hotel, shared vans (Super Shuttle) line up outside the terminal and can take you to any location within the city. You can pre-purchase Super Shuttle transfers from WorldVacations. Travel time is dependent on how many other stops the vans have to make. Airport hotels may also provide free shuttle service.

Bus
Buses can be a good way to travel for short jaunts within the city. Longer journeys can require numerous transfers and some areas may not even be served by buses.

Taxi
A good transportation option for shorter journeys, as longer rides can become very expensive. Hailing a cab is best done in the downtown area and at major hotels. A better option is to have your hotel call one for you.

Metro
There are three lines that run throughout Los Angeles — red, blue, and green. They serve most commuter routes and thus not especially convenient for tourists. However, the red line does go to Hollywood and Universal City.

Car
By far the best way to travel around Anaheim or the vast metropolitan area of Los Angeles is by car. Make sure to always allow more time than what you need to get to your destination, as L.A.’s legendary traffic jams are a reality.

Anaheim and Surrounding Areas
Around The Disneyland® Resort you’ll find hundreds of favorite and well-recognized names. The Downtown Disney® District is also jam-packed with restaurants. Here are some others to try in and around Anaheim:

• The Cannery
  Naturally, a former cannery building now serving fish rather than packing it. Choose to sit at the sushi bar, the dining room, or the the patio. On Tuesdays, certain wines are priced at only $1 over cost. Newport Beach.
• Las Brisas
  Come for the food, stay for the views. A lovely Mexican restaurant on the cliffs above the beach. Great quesadillas and numerous margaritas to choose from; the Emerald is highly recommended. The outdoor patio is the perfect spot to sit in the sun or watch the sunset. Laguna Beach.
• PJ's Abbey
  Locals come to this 1891 former Baptist church to enjoy American favorites. Old Towne Orange.
• Yard House
  One of the best outdoor dining venues in Long Beach, AND one of the world’s largest selections of draft beers, served up in yards, half-yards, and pints. Long Beach.

Los Angeles Area

• Chateau Marmont
  A revamped New American menu and a great spot to rub elbows with celebrities. Ask to sit out on the patio bar for the best viewing. West Hollywood.
• The Hungry Cat
  A seriously good seafood spot with a raw bar menu. Try the addictive lobster roll. Hollywood.
• Locanda Veneta
  An unassuming yet upscale Italian restaurant where its close-quarter seating makes for possible celebrity elbow rubbing. Choose the daily specials and anything made with their signature sage butter sauce. West Side/Beverly Hills.
• Maple Drive
  Chef Eric Klein spent eight years training with Wolfgang Puck and it shows in his delicious dishes and irresistible desserts. Beverly Hills.
• Patina
  Longtime neighborhood favorite now in its new location at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Elegant, but not fussy. Downtown.
• Table 8
  It’s hard to go wrong with anything on the menu at this Melrose Avenue landmark.

For nightlife, the most popular place is along Sunset Strip. Other locations to try are mid-Wilshire Blvd, west of I-110 and east of La Cienega Blvd, between Beverly Blvd and I-10; and downtown Los Angeles. Many new clubs can also be found on the cleaned-up Hollywood Blvd.

In Anaheim, the place to be is The Downtown Disney® District.

Restaurants and nightclubs are always opening and closing, so check it out before you head out.

Shopping is a serious pastime in Los Angeles and nowhere else is shopping defined by a single street — Rodeo Drive. The top names in fashion and jewelry can be found here and even though the prices may be beyond your budget, the people watching is free.

Other areas to shop ‘til you drop are:

• Hollywood Boulevard
  Great souvenir hunting.
• Melrose Avenue
  Once known for as the locale for the TV show, the street is now a high-end shopping mecca with stores from Marc Jacobs, Carolina Herrera, Paul Smith, and others.
• La Brea Avenue
  A shopping area with stores dealing in Art Deco, Arts and Crafts, 1950s, and modern, plus the fabulous, The Way We Wore for the best vintage collection in the Los Angeles area.
• Sunset Strip
  Outrageous fashions and accessories plus the Virgin Megastore and Tower Records.
• West Third Street
  Trendy finds with many former Melrose Avenue shops.

Markets — farmer and flea — are fun to explore. The oldest of all the markets is the Farmers Market, located in the Fairfax District. The Rose Bowl Flea Market takes place on the second Sunday of every month and features beautiful antiques and new furniture. The largest in Los Angeles is in Santa Monica and takes place every Wednesday.

For incredible deals on jewelry, go to the Jewelry District, between 5th and 8th Streets and Hill Street and Broadway in downtown. Knock-offs of brand name necklaces seen on Rodeo Drive can be found here at a fraction of the price.

Rose Bowl Parade
January 1. The historic parade winds through Pasadena.

Chinese New Year Celebration
January or February. Huge party and parade in Chinatown.

Annual Newport Beach Jazz Festival
Mid-February. Some of the biggest and best names in jazz gather in this charming and upscale oceanfront town.

Return of the Swallows
Mid-March. The swallows return every year to Mission San Juan Capistrano.

Academy Awards
February or March. The star-studded Oscars take place to award the finest in the motion picture industry. (Note: WorldVacations rooms at Hollywood area hotels are not available at this time.)

Concours d’Elegance Annual Car Show
Early June. The Rolls Royce of car shows features a few of them as well. In Huntington Beach.

Balloon and Wine Festival
June. South of L.A. in the wine-producing area of Temecula.

Primetime Emmy Awards
Mid-September. Honoring the television industry.

Golf
The Los Angeles area has more than 100 golf courses, including seven 18-hole courses and three 9-hole courses that are run by the city. Three of the best public courses are inside Griffith Park. The best thing about the public courses are that greens fees on weekends are under $30.

Sportfishing
Deep-sea fishing charters are available from early December to late March at Dana Point and Newport Beach, at the Balboa Pavilion.

Biking
There is a 22-mile paved biking trail that runs from Pacific Palisades in the north to Torrance in the south. For mountain biking, the best place to go is Malibu State Park with its 15 miles of trails.

TV Shows
Write in advance to the studio and you can probably get tickets to watch your favorite TV show being filmed. Or go to www.tvtickets.com. Most filming for current TV shows is done between August and March; after that, studios start filming pilots.

Getty Villa
After nine years of rebuilding and $275 million, the Getty Villa opened in January 2006. Visitors can now wander the 23 rooms and galleries of the permanent collection and see thoughtfully interpreted artifacts from the Greeks, whose cultural domination of the Mediterranean lasted from 1000 to 31 B.C.; the Etruscans, who hailed from the land of Etruria in central Italy from 1000 to 27 B.C.; and the Romans, whose rise started in 753 B.C. and fell in 565 A.D. Admission to the villa is free. Advanced, timed tickets are required for each individual and can be obtained online at www.getty.edu or by calling (310) 440-7300. Groups of nine or more must call. Parking is $8, cash only.

Griffith Observatory
The site will re-open in November 2007 with a state-of-the-art planetarium, a 200-seat theater, and new exhibits.

Disneyland Resort Express
There is a shuttle every hour from both the Los Angeles Airport and the Orange County Airport to Disneyland, available for a fee from Southern California Grayline.

Free Music
Free jazz concerts are held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in its Central Court on Friday evenings, April – December.

Coffee
Urth Café on Melrose Avenue serves up the frothiest cappuccinos and celebrity sightings. Grab a latte inside the crowded space then sit outside for hours and read.
