Jacksonville, Florida
Jacksonville, dating from 1822 and named for General Andrew Jackson, combines Florida's famous beaches with southern hospitality. As one of the South's most important centers of commerce and finance, Jacksonville is a busy port of entry as well as a popular winter retreat. While Jacksonville's most attractive feature is its wide, sandy, uncrowded beaches, the city also has plentiful fishing and yachting facilities, and inland hunting areas. The World Golf Hall of Fame is located here, as are more than 50 golf courses. The city has a symphony orchestra, a jazz festival, a zoo, and museums and art galleries, and is the home of the National Football League's Jaguars and the Gator Bowl. Don't miss the Confederate monument in Hemming Park, and nearby Fort Caroline National Memorial. Close by is America's first settlement of St. Augustine-established by the French 55 years before the Mayflower landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Here you can explore the Castillo de San Marcos, one of the New World's first forts, spanning 25 acres. With its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, expect great seafood in Jacksonville. You'll also be treated to classic southern-fried chicken, and anything else you may want, as there's a restaurant for every taste and budget. Package includes:- Choice of accommodations
