Dayton, Ohio
In the early 1800's, Dayton was given the nickname "Gem City". The city drew in many inventors and entrepreneurs who were recognized for creating the first stepladder, microfiche, movie projector, parking meter, parachute, and cash register. But the most famous invention came from the Wright Brothers, who created the first fixed-wing aircraft in the back of their bicycle shop.
